The September Technology Evening was again hosted at the Centurion Country Club, which kindly sponsored 50% of the cost of the venue. The presentation was done by David Bean from Industrial Data Exchange, who introduced “Some general observations on the Industrial Internet of Things landscape (two different approaches) and some practical feedback/insight on a project involving heavy mining equipment in an open-cast pit”.
The presentation was done in an ‘informal’ way based on ‘random notes’ which made the concepts easy to grasp, even for C&I beginners. A brief overview of the approaches to IIoT were discussed, namely Decentralised Data Space (DDS) and Device-Centric Client-Server (OCP-UA), the former being a relational model and the latter being object orientated.
The presentation concluded with a live demonstration of mobile asset monitoring which was well received by the audience.
