Johannesburg Branch (Branch of the Year)

November 2004 SAIMC

Meetings

Our October meeting was the last official gathering for 2004. It was sponsored by Flour SA, the topic being safety integrity levels (SIL). It was presented by Dick Perry, a former national president of the SAIMC. He now serves as a councillor on the National Council, and chairman of the Education Sub-committee. Because of his first-rate support of the SAIMC over many years, he has the status of a fellow member. Dick is a specialist in the field of emergency shut down systems (ESD) and he shared both his knowledge and experience in the design and implementing of these safety systems. This presentation attracted a large number of interested parties and many thought-provoking questions were posed and were answered most professionally.

November meeting

As previously mentioned, November is going to be very special event and no formal meeting will take place. We are busy with the final arrangements for this outing for both you and your partner to an evening filled with great excitement and entertainment at the State Theatre in Pretoria. Keep a look out for your e-mails or send us one so that we can add your name to our monthly invitation list.

Site visits

An exclusive site visit was arranged by us for our members and their invited guests to visit South African Airways at Johannesburg International Airport where we were able to 'fly' a Boeing 747 on one of their latest flight simulators. SAA made it possible for us to accommodate 30 members. The e-mail invitations had hardly gone out when all 30 places were taken. The full story will be published in next month's magazine.

Planned visits still to come include Natref, Rand Water Board and the SABC.

Golf day

Our final Golf day will also take place and full details of invitations times and dates have been sent out. Watch your e-mails for further information.

Membership

At branch level we are being trampled on by the National Council for our members' outstanding subscriptions. If you would like to remain a member or to become one, please contact our secretariat CTR on 011 888 8332. They are willing to assist you with any query that you may have or if it is your preference, feel free to send us an e-mail so that we can take the matter up on your behalf.

Again, I thank you, all of our regular attendees, my committee and patrons for your enthusiastic commitment.

Chairman, Johan van Jaarsveldt
