Protea Automation Solutions have introduced a new industrial vortex system (IVS) that offers superior flow measurement solutions for water and wastewater applications. The Signet IVS is available as a standalone flow sensor, but can also be used for an integrated system. The IVS provides an adjustable 4 to 20 mA output and an open-collector sensor pulse output signal. In addition, the K-factor is programmable for any flow unit.
The built-in extra-large 8-digit resetable totaliser can be used for on-site totalisation, and a second permanent totaliser tracks usage consumption for the life of the product. The sensors are available in frequency or current output versions for standalone use. The frequency output version is compatible with Signet flow monitors and controllers to provide a complete measurement system.
There are no moving parts for maintenance-free operation, simple pushbutton programming is accomplished on the unit for easy configuration and system set-up, and all true union standards apply with multiple end connection options for application versatility and system integrity.
The IVS detects vortices in a fluid stream with a sensor. As the vortices move by the sensor, pressure differentials force the internal piezoelectric element to flex, generating a sinusoidal frequency. The sensor shape only allows for side-to-side movement, contributing significantly to sensing noise immunity.
