Water for silicon chips

October 2002 Flow Measurement & Control

Ultra pure water required for the production of silicon chip wafers is being monitored using Krohne's H250 ESK-Z variable area flowmeters. The German electronics company, Semikron, relies on Krohne's H250 meters to provide actual volumetric flow rates within an accuracy range of 1,6% full-scale. The readings are transmitted to a display in the control room, while a counter built into the H250 totals the cumulative flow.

The H250 measuring tube and float have no crevices or dead zones, thereby allowing distortion-free flow profile and preventing bacteria build-up. The mechanical construction and the use of 2-wire technology makes static charge build-up impossible - which is an important consideration in the semiconductor manufacturing process. The H250 requires no periodic maintenance and is suitable for CIP (clean in place), making it a popular variable area flowmeter.
