A vision and measurement integrated software featuring drag-and-drop design programming, has been launched by Massachusetts-based Data Translation, and is now also available in South Africa. The DT Measure Foundry Version 3.0 is a software package that simplifies data acquisition and allows the user to create complex measurement applications without being a system or application developer. Its built-in maths library with more than 200 functions lets users perform advanced analyses of processes.
The Windows 2000/XP-based software also features an Application Inspector; the ability to correlate sensor and vision data; and a software development kit that lets engineers build applications with third-party hardware.
DT Measure Foundry Data acquisition software with added functionality Version 3.0 is a RAD, or rapid application development system. It features an OPC (object linking and embedding for process control) tool that lets users connect to their process control equipment with OPC servers.
Among other features, the software installs 7 step-by-step tutorials, more than 20 example applications, an online help manual and a distribution wizard. This is a built-in installer application to create and distribute a data translation measure foundry application to another user with a custom defined set-up programme.
"This is a terrific tool that programmers and system integrators will really appreciate", says Bobby Holdcroft, MD of Designs Unique the company that distributes Data Translation's products in southern Africa. "There is also a quick start function which allows the user to learn about the principles of MF within 10-15 minutes", he adds, "and gets them up and running quickly".
Some of the applications where this software is particularly suitable include automated test and measurement, high-speed data logging, process control and monitoring and closed loop control. The software can also be used for example in laboratory research, in the automotive industry, for report generation and for quality control.
