FCI markets an accurate mass flowmeter product that it says is able to perform in a shorter section of pipe or duct, with a fraction of the pressure loss of any other flow straightener or conditioner available today. Known as the Vortab, the system reduces or eliminates pressure drop, swirl, jetting and more while requiring only six diameters of pipe upstream from the meter in order to obtain gas flow measurement accuracy.
Available from Protea Automation Solutions, Vortab ensures accurate, repeatable gas flow measurement and is the efficient alternative to long lengths of straight piping or ducting upstream of a flowmeter installation. Each of three available flow conditioner configurations consists of a short section of swirl reduction tabs combined with three arrays of patented Vortab profile conditioning tabs.
There is also an array of standard specialised and custom-designed accessories to support the FCI flowmeter and flow switch products, such as the VelociTee for liquid low flow detection in chemical injection pumps. Its unique construction ensures that the sensing element is always wet and that flow pulsations are dampened. This conditioner allows an FCI type FLT93 flowmeter to sense flow rates as low as 5 litres per hour.
