Protea Automation Solutions market a device used for level monitoring in all types of containers and silos. It can be used with all powdery and granulated bulk materials that do not show a propensity to form crusts or deposits. A wide range of application is found in foodstuff manufacturing.

The design of the VN series incorporates a piezo-electrically stimulated oscillating probe, which vibrates at its mechanical frequency of resonance of 125 Hz. When the probe is covered with bulk material the damping generated is registered electronically and a corresponding signal output is generated. Self-cleaning properties are ensured by the fundamental oscillation of the device.

The primary areas of application include the building industry, for lime, cement, styrofoam, moulding sand, etc; the food industry for milk powder, flour, salt, etc; the plastics industry for powders, granules, etc; and the chemical industry for various powders and granules.

The VN probes are available in several configurations and lengths. A probe is normally screwed into the container wall so that it is level with the filling height to be registered and monitored. It can also be mounted on the top of the vessel, with an extension piece to suit the height to be registered. The effective length of the probe can be up to 20 m - where either an extension piece or extension cables are used.

The unit is made of stainless steel with aluminium die cast housing protected to IP65, and suitable for operation on a standard 230 or 110 V a.c. supply.
