Flow Measurement & Control

Mechatronic flowmeter with digital display

November 2015 Flow Measurement & Control

The new inline flowmeters from ifm electronic are fitted with a rotatable multi-colour display which is clearly visible from all sides. A red/green colour selection of the display clearly signals to the user when the set values are too high or too low, and the device has a fast response time of 10 ms.

The piston located in the valve seat in the housing is lifted against a spring by the flowing medium. The piston position is monitored via a magnetic field sensor and output as an analogue signal. The spring resistance forces the piston to return to its original position with decreasing flow. This ensures position-independent installation of the flowmeter and prevents backflow. The sensor head can be rotated by 360°C so that it can be read in any position.

Two switching status LEDs on the sensor head, which are clearly visible from all sides, indicate the set and reset points. The device is rated for medium temperatures up to 100°C and it can also measure and display the temperature. Thanks to its three pushbuttons, setting is quick and easy and the IO-Link functionality ensures users are ready for Industry 4.0.
