Ultrasonic level sensor for solids and liquids

August 2015 Level Measurement & Control

Due to the many advantages offered by an ultrasonic level measurement, ACS Control System has developed a new future-oriented range of devices. The product line is divided into the Sonicont USN, a compact device with built-in display, and the Sonicont USF/USG with its separate transmitter.

The Sonicont devices are universal ultrasonic level sensors that can be used both for liquids as well as bulk material. When the Sonicont USG/USF is in use, the transmitter is separately mounted to the sensor. The measurement ranges are in liquids up to 25 m and in solids up to 12 m. The Sonicont USG/USF is mainly used in places where the operation does not take place locally, e.g. in high silos or tanks, or when the user wishes the display and parameterisation to be external to the sensor. The designs range from front panel mounting housings for the cabinet door, on to weather-proof DIN rail mounting up to wall-mounted versions.

All devices of the series Sonicont have a backlit TFT display that combines bright display of the measured values with an excellent operability. The combination of large buttons, the bright display, and intuitive menu navigation, simplifies the installation. Commissioning is usually completed in a few minutes via the software that records the environmental conditions with various diagnostic functions designed to fade out any false echoes. The sensors all have a data logger that allows over 500 000 recorded measurements, which can be seen directly as a chart representation. Since the user may choose the timeframe in which to record, there is the possibility of measuring values over weeks to analyse, visualise and optimise processes. As an option, the Sonicont USG/USF devices can also be supplied with a real-time clock with battery backup to save the time stamps. Other features include:

• Process temperature range from -40 to 85°C.

• Weather proof (IP68).

• Analog output 4-20 mA and 4 switching outputs.

• Accuracy 0,2%.

• Hermetically sealed sensors made of PVDF for the highest chemical resistance.

• The Sonicont USG sensor can be installed up to 30 m from the transmitter.
