Pressure transmitters from Vega have been successfully used in the dairy industry worldwide. VegaBar 55 is used to monitor the circuits on the plate heat exchangers that are an important part of the milk heating and cooling process. An essential safety operation in the heat exchangers is to ensure that the separation between the dairy product and heating/cooling circuits is maintained. To ensure this, the dairy product circuit is always operated at a higher pressure, thus avoiding any risk of cross-contamination by heating or cooling agents.
The circuits on the plate heat exchangers are equipped with two VegaBar 55 pressure transmitters. One sensor measures the pressure in the dairy product circuit, the other the pressure in the heating/cooling circuit, which ensures that safe pressures are individually maintained. If the pressure differential between the two circuits drops below 0,3 bar, a backup system is activated, significantly increasing safety during heating and cooling cycles.
The process connections of the devices comply with the hygienic requirements of the food industry. The measurement devices are, of course, CIP/SIP capable, with IP ratings to ensure they are protected against environmental conditions inside the dairy. The sensors are also condensation proofed and can withstand temperatures up to 150°C and pressures up to 6 bar.
This differential-pressure measurement solution using two separate pressure transmitters is particularly easy to install. Additionally, the individual pressures of the different circuits can be monitored and displayed on site.
