Level Measurement & Control

Vega's level switch likes it hot

February 2013 Level Measurement & Control

The Vegaswing 66 is Vega’s latest addition to its portfolio of vibrating limit switches for liquids. The instrument is designed for reliable, self monitoring and fail-safe switching in applications with process temperatures up to 450°C and process pressures up to 160 bar. The application range extends from distillation columns in the oil and gas industry, to high and low water limits in steam boilers, to cryogenic applications in gas tanks for LNG and nitrogen.

Until now, the principle of the vibrating level switch has been limited to process conditions up to a maximum of 280°C and 100 bar. By using a new drive for the tuning fork, Vega has made deployment of the Vegaswing 66 possible far beyond these limits. It delivers a convincing performance with impressive values: process temperatures from -196 to 450°C and pressures from 0 to 160 bar.

The Vegaswing boasts many other reliable functions. Since it is virtually unaffected by product properties such as product density, the vibrating level switch can be used with hardly any restrictions. The sensor switches reliably and reproducibly when a certain filling level is reached. Adjustment with the medium to be measured is not required for setup. The integrated analysis and monitoring capabilities allow certification according to SIL2 and steam boiler regulations.

Versatile and dependable

Users benefit from the technical features in combination with the total self-monitoring of the sensor and can be sure of the highest system reliability – even in critical high-temperature and high-pressure applications. Standard approvals according to ATEX and FM for use in explosive gases and dust, as well as versions as compact sensor or with tube extensions up to 6 m, round out the wide application spectrum of this unique, new product.
