Fluke addresses energy efficiency in buildings

June 2012 Maintenance, Test & Measurement, Calibration

Achieving savings in energy consumption is a national imperative in Africa and consumers are asking what they can do to reduce the electricity bill. In this context, Fluke has introduced a solution that addresses:

* Energy efficiency in buildings.

* Environmental sustainability.

* Energy usage in buildings.

The solution is based on a range of test and measurement tools designed to address the problem.

1. The new 430 series II power analysis that analyses power quality and calculates how much is being lost to wasted energy.

2. The 376 clamp meter to measure current into the different loads.

3. P3 range of thermal imagers for scanning the building envelope to establish a baseline of the energy lost through poor insulation via doors, windows, roofs, ceiling boards, light fittings, air-conditioning ducts and pipes.

4. Once buildings are properly insulated range of indoor air quality instruments to test and regulate air quality. The 975 and 922 airflow meters, the 971 temperature humidity meter and the 983 particle counter.

5. The 6000 series portable appliance testers to verify the electrical safety and operation of appliances like kettles, TVs, fridges, microwaves, coffee machines and hairdryers.

In the spirit of compliance, Comtest has itself undertaken a comprehensive analysis of its head offices to gauge the energy usage and the energy wastage in its buildings. The findings of this audit will soon be made available as a case history on the company website and will contain details of the problems encountered and the monetary value of the savings achieved by fixing them.
