Fast mechatronic flow sensor

Flow Measurement & Control
ifm electronic’s new SBU323 Series mechatronic flow sensors work on the principle of spring supported piston. The sensors are ideal for machine tools and provide reliable flow control for internal drill cooling. Various models are available with 25 l/min, 50 l/min or 75 l/min flow rates and pressure ranges up to 200 bar. Switch points can be preset and the user has a choice of a binary or analogue signal output. The flow sensors meet IP67 protection requirements, have a 10 ms response time and are vibration and shock resistant.
The piston located in the valve seat in the housing is lifted by the flowing medium against the spring resistance. The piston position is detected via an inductive sensor or a sensor with a GMR cell. The spring resistance allows reliable reset of the piston to its initial position with decreasing flow. This ensures position independent installation of the flow sensor preventing backflow. The switch points can be individually set and fixed via a setting screw. The robust mechanical design ensures use at high pressures and in harsh environments.
