Endress+Hauser recently supplied a hydrostatic level transmitter to a Durban-based dairy supplier. The company required an instrument for low temperature level applications in a high humidity environment.

To cope under conditions such as these, Endress+Hauser has developed an hermetically-sealed contrite measuring cell – the Deltapilot S FMB70 hydrostatic level transmitter.

The product was specifically-designed for hygienic applications that require continuous cleaning and sanitising of product storage tanks. These are low temperature tanks operating at temperatures of between 3 and 4°C. As a result, the tanks as well as the instrumentation are subject to large amounts of condensate in high humidity environments.

When cleaning the tanks with steam or hot water temperature fluctuations can cause the housing to ‘breathe’, thereby drawing in some of this condensate. Once inside the housing it interferes with the electronics and can cause failures or intermittent faults.

Endress+Hauser solved the design challenge by developing an hermetically sealed contrite measuring cell with gortex filters, which allow the instrumentation to ventilate without allowing precipitate into the sensor. The contrite measuring cell has been fitted to the new Deltapilot FMB70 level transmitter to make it condensate and climate proof. It features very good reproducibility and long term stability, high reference accuracy with minimum temperature effects, extensive diagnostic functions and a HistoROM.

Deltapilot is well suited to dairy and brewery applications in high humidity environments, allowing tanks to be kept hygienically clean without compromising the integrity, accuracy, or reliability of the instrumentation.
