Laser sensors open up new possibilities for the detection of glossy objects or difficult packaging surfaces. Conventional light sensors are challenged by glossy targets. In addition, if the package surface is also strongly structured or crinkled such as milled surfaces or foil packaging, reliable detection is not possible.
The new Baumer electric laser sensor ONDM 16 from Temperature Controls offers solutions for many of the detection problems encountered with optical sensors. The new sensor, in the proven series 16 metal housing, even detects heavily inclined, high gloss objects perfectly and reliably by means of the triangulation principle.
Due to a very finely focused laser, it is able to reliably detect edges with a repetitive accuracy of <0,1 mm. The visible light spot (laser class 2) is extremely helpful for alignment of the object to the sensor. The scanning distance is set (from 25 to 200 mm) by an easily accessible 8-turn setting screw. The light and dark switching PNP-signal outputs are short-circuit protected. Cable or connector versions are available.
