Various physical principles can be used to precisely determine position. Non-contact measurement methods offer the advantage of eliminating wear. The magnetostrictive principle is one such method that offers an excellent solution in level measurement.
The MagFox MMG 01 level gauge from Afriso-Euro-Index uses the magnetostrictive principle to ensure high-precision level measurement (±0,25 mm) and long service life. The propagation time of a torsion wave travelling between a float functioning as position sensor and a signal converter at the end of a probe pipe is converted into a proportional 4-20 mA electrical signal. This gauge was designed for continuous level measurement of liquid, non-adhesive and not highly viscous media in tanks and vessels with filling levels from 0,2 to 4,0 m. The system is suitable for liquid temperatures from -40°C to +125°C and process pressures up to 16 bar. The microprocessor-controlled electronic system is contained in a weatherproof stainless steel housing providing IP 68 (EN 60529) protection. It is suitable even for harsh process conditions because it is not sensitive to shock and vibration. The level gauge is also available with HART protocol and with ATEX approval for zone 0.
