AC magflows here to stay
November 2006
Flow Measurement & Control
"What we need is actually an AC magflow." These words are still uttered by respected engineers and technicians in the mining and pulp sectors. The reasons for this are straightforward.
Some pulps and mining slurries generate mechanical or chemical process noise which can render DC pulsed electromagnetic flowmeters ineffective. An AC excited magflow generates a flow signal which optimises the signal to noise ratio simply and effectively in these traditionally difficult applications.
Local flowmeter manufacturer, Flowmetrix SA, remains one of the few manufacturers in the world producing AC excited magflows in response to this need. The Safmag AC electromagnetic flowmeter continues to be deployed in the harshest pulp and mining applications due to its robust and proven design and construction. Although globally the AC coil excitation option is becoming rarer, the mining and pulp industries continue to demand this solution.
A wide range of liners and electrodes ensure an effective, long-lasting solution for accurate flow measurement in typically noisy applications, where abrasion is always to be considered.
