The new Liquiphant S vibration level switch is suitable for high-temperature processes, for all liquids, and for use in explosion hazardous areas.
The emergence of new technologies and high-grade materials has enabled the design of a sensor fork for applications with extreme thermal and mechanical strain. Liquiphant S is able to measure level reliably with temperatures between -40°C and 280°C (with no temperature shock limitation), pressure up to 64 bar, density from 0,5 g/cm3 and viscosity up to 10 000 mm2/s. Two models are available in the FTL 70 that offers a compact design and is suitable for mounting in pipes, and the FTL 71 that comes with an extension tube to a maximum of 3 m.
For applications involving very aggressive liquids, high corrosion-resistant alloy C4 is available for the fork and process connections. EEx ia (IS), EEx de and EEx d (XP) protection allow it to be used in explosion hazardous areas. Welded, gas-proof bushing means that even in the event of sensor damage, safety is not undermined.
The device requires no maintenance work and measurement remains unaffected by flow, turbulence, bubbles, foam, solid-matter or build-up, thus making it a suitable replacement for float switches. In order to guarantee the long-term functional capacity of the instrument, also under difficult conditions, stability was computer-simulated by the Finite Element Method. This method permits the exact calculation of material resistance and failure.
Commissioning and maintenance are quick and easy using the Profibus-PA protocol. Process connections from 3/4" and a compact tuning fork enable installation in confined spaces. As an option, Liquiphant S is available with a high-resistant coating, such as enamel or PFA.
Level measurement of an acid dosing tank at a WWTP
Level Measurement & Control
Ferric chloride and other acids are essential chemical substances in water and wastewater treatment. To control the dosing of acid solutions, an Australian wastewater treatment plant uses a special container to store, mix and add these chemicals. The company opted in favour of KROHNE’s OPTIWAVE 1540 radar level transmitter

Level Measurement & Control
A municipal utility in eastern Germany operates a state-of-the-art wastewater treatment plant with sustainable sludge treatment. The ultrasonic signal was being partially deflected by the wind, leading to frequent false measurements and inefficient process workflows. The problem was solved by replaced the ultrasonic level sensor with KROHNE’s OPTIWAVE 1540 non-contact radar.

Level Measurement & Control
A major city council in South East Queensland, Australia maintains and operates a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) for municipal, industrial and agricultural wastewater. Due to the risk of flooding, the water sump must be continuously monitored. The solution is KROHNE’s OPTIWAVE 1540 radar level transmitter.
