Flexible level measurement for water industry applications

A new modular level measurement and control system for the water industry is available from Dupleix Liquid Meters (DLM). The new MSP system manufactured by Solartron Mobrey comprises of a choice of ultrasonic or hydrostatic level transmitters, and wall- or panel-mounted control units. It offers a cost-effective and versatile solution for a wide range of level and differential level measurement and control applications on clean water and wastewater treatment works.
Use of a common microprocessor platform provides compatibility of instrumentation, and high functionality in the control units. Five programmable relays are provided for alarm duties and/or control of up to four pumps, including duty assist, duty standby, scum line prevention, pump rotation, pumped volume calculation, efficiency and realtime control for energy saving. There is also a 4 to 20 mA output for connection to a remote indicator or site supervisory system, and HART communications capability.
For tank contents monitoring, a built-in library of standard tank shapes is provided, for quick and easy set-up and commissioning in the field. For more complex level monitoring applications, a 21-point DIY plot can be user-programmed, downloaded from a PC or populated by hand. Open channel flow monitoring equations to BS3680 (ISO4362 and ISO9826) - for use with weirs and venturi flumes - are pre-programmed.
Differential measurements can be made using two ultrasonic transmitters and a single control unit. The system is easily programmed to display the difference or sum of the two levels or flows, as well as the individual measurements. The system includes options for logging up to 4800 events, at user-defined intervals. A clever 'automatic fast log' function recognises exceptional events and records them in more detail for further analysis.
An integral keypad on the front of the control unit gives access to all functions. The intuitive menu-driven system is easy to navigate, and a password security system allows the upper level functions to be locked against unauthorised users.
The MSP900 (11 metre) ultrasonic level transmitter is a 24 V loop-powered device, supplied factory sealed in UPVC housing. The 9700 hydrostatic transmitter is manufactured in 316 stainless steel with a corrosion resistant ceramic capacitive sensing cell. Both transmitters are supplied complete with integral cable, ready for installation. The MCU900 and MCULOG control units are HART compatible. All the elements of the new MSP systems can also be used on their own or with third party instrumentation including PLCs and other plant control systems.
