RFID interface module with PLC capabilities
December 2017
Industrial Wireless
To streamline RFID integration and data processing in HF and UHF applications, Turck has introduced its TBEN-L-RFID interface module with PLC capabilities via Codesys. This compact module’s controller function can filter and pre-process RFID data and link to broader control operations, enabling high-speed dynamic or multi-tag applications.
The design makes this module ideal for retrofitting RFID applications. An IP67 rating allows its use outside the cabinet, and actuators and sensors can be connected with HF and UHF read/write heads simultaneously. These features reduce the installation and wiring efforts required for industrial identification solutions.
“This device expands on the powerful combination of advanced features and simplistic integration in our recently released ultra-compact TBEN-S RFID interface. It offers users a fully programmable package to meet the majority of industrial applications, all while staying outside of the cabinet,” said Don Eichman, fieldbus technology product manager.
For additional flexibility, users can set the multiprotocol device to one of the Ethernet protocols – Profinet, EtherNet/IP or Modbus TCP – via the Codesys environment. The module offers 256 MB of flash memory and runs on an 800 MHz CPU. It is connected to the Ethernet layer via an M12 connector.
The interface offers four RFID ports and eight universal I/O for sensors or actuators. With full programmability, it extends the capabilities of the existing modules for seamless integration into existing applications.
