AFL launches TruEvent technology

June 2014 Fieldbus & Industrial Networking

AFL has launched TruEvent Technology, the advanced event analysis software used in its M-series optical time domain reflectometers (OTDRs) to provide a new level of accuracy and event analysis reliability. This technology allows users to determine more accurately where fibre losses meet or exceed specifications in data centres or long haul applications.

“The introduction of TruEvent Technology provides industry-leading event analysis that makes AFL’s newest models one of the most accurate OTDRs in the market,” says Lee Kellett, director of product marketing for AFL’s test and inspection division. “Our research focused on developing software that reported all events accurately, while not reporting false events. More accuracy translates into faster, lower-cost troubleshooting and data you can count on.”

Used to test new fibre installations and locate faults in existing fibre optic networks, AFL’s OTDRs are available for both multi and single-mode networks. OTDRs scan fibre optic networks from one end of the fibre, displaying a trace and reporting pass/fail results for events such as splices, connectors and micro or macro bends. Fibre length is reported along with location and loss of detected events.

Several AFL OTDRs are available with an integrated visual fault locator (VFL), optical light source (OLS), and/or optical power meter (OPM). OTDR results can be saved and uploaded to a PC for further analysis and/or archiving.
