Since the installation of the first Beka intrinsically safe loop powered indicator in 1984, the company has been at the forefront of indicator development culminating in the recent launch of its fourth generation models. These new instruments based the latest electronic, production and certification technology provide larger digits, improved visibility, more standard features and higher reliability.
The range includes field and panel mounting models with a choice of four digits 34 mm high, or five digits 29 mm high with a 31 segment bargraph. All have an extended operating temperature of -40 to 70°C and include a square root extractor, 16 segment lineariser, internal calibrator and a tare function. Optional accessories include a backlight that may be looped or separately powered and dual alarms with isolated solid state outputs.
The field mounting models have a robust IP66 enclosure with an armoured glass window making them suitable for installation in harsh industrial and offshore environments. A separate terminal compartment with forward facing terminals simplifies installation and maintenance. Accessories include pipe-mounting kits and stainless steel tag plates etched with customer specified information.
Panel mounting models are available with 4 and 5 digit displays having heights between 11 and 34 mm. All panel mounting indicators have an IP66 front panel and a gasket to seal the joint between the instrument and the mounting panel allowing them to be washed down. A novel scale card showing the units of measurement in a window adjacent to the display may be changed on-site without opening the instrument enclosure or removing it from the panel.
Field and panel mounting models are available with ATEX and IECEx intrinsic safety certification permitting installation in gas and dust hazardous areas. For applications in Zone 2 or 22, field mounting models with Ex nA and Ex tc approval permit installation without the need for Zener barriers or galvanic isolators significantly reducing installation cost.
