In observing the market, we find that the industry is moving away from piping systems in order to combat system leak rates. Rotating equipment and customised solutions provide many differentiating opportunities. Also, project companies are now increasingly controlling the planning of new systems, giving rotating equipment the biggest share of the budget. As these trends begin to take hold, it is worth investigating API 682 and how it can affect applications.

Piping vs tubing

Piping vs tubing is a topic that is fast gaining ground and produces interesting discussion and perspective. Swagelok weighs in on the debate by highlighting some interesting areas.

Selecting the correct hose for your application can prove a challenge that is made more complicated, depending on the industry you are working in. Some key considerations you should ideally reflect on before making your choice, will not only ensure increased value, cost savings, longevity of product and application, but also elimination of leakage and increased safety on the plant. These areas include:

• Size: determining internal and outside diameters.

• Temperature: exposure with regard to system media and environment.

• Material: determining materials of construction.

• Pressure: minimum and maximum pressures (or vacuum) inside and outside the hose assembly.

• End connections: style, type and orientation to overcome any space constraints.

• Delivery: special requirements or specific quality, testing and packaging needs.

The branch thanks Mike for this interesting and well received presentation.
