SAIMC: Durban branch

December 2018 SAIMC

2018 was a busy and successful year for the branch culminating in us receiving the Platinum Award at the annual gala dinner.

We will undoubtedly, as the SAIMC, do everything possible to increase our visibility in spite of our already stretched resources. That means continuing with publications and activities that serve to broaden the knowledge and understanding of our members, with special emphasis on student support and development. We see that there is an opportunity to bridge the present gap which exists between tertiary education and prospective employers, and continue to build our cooperative working relationships with tertiary educational establishments and the industries which they strive to serve.

2018 in review.
2018 in review.

The Durban branch will be an active participant in these activities. We also want to offer knowledge of career opportunities in the field of automation, instrumentation, measurement and control to students at secondary schools in this area, as we believe that most young people are unaware of the possibilities that exist here and they may be positively influenced in their choice of subjects if they are made aware sufficiently early.

We are extremely aware of the need for us to provide value to our members and patrons and will continue to work with them towards offering ongoing value and satisfaction.

The way in which branch performance is assessed is under review as the present system appears to favour those branches that are already successful. The Durban branch is strongly represented on the committee for SAIMC Growth which is headed by Pregs Naidoo, so we will be involved in the development of strategy that will benefit us as a society and also – in the long term – South Africa.
