The last technology evening was hosted by WIKA Instruments where product specialist, Lloyd Townsend, presented on ‘The Basics of Temperature Measurement’.
Elri Klee (left) hands Lloyd Townsend the presenter’s certificate.
Lloyd covered a wide range of topics such as temperature measuring devices, which included amongst others bimetallic thermometers, gas actuated thermometers, resistance sensor (RTD), PT100, thermocouples, as well as topics such as temperature transmitters and thermowells, right down to the behaviour of atoms and molecules under the influence of changes in temperature.
He also focused on measurement principles, mechanical temperature measurement, operating principles, limits of permissible error i.e. accuracy classes and drift, types of sensors, different types of wiring, comparison of systems, thermocouple classification, applications, basic principles of signal processing, as well as selection and design criteria.
The presentation concluded with an overview and in-depth technical insight of the subject matter.
