SAIMC: Durban branch

November 2013 SAIMC

Education sub-committee

One of the broader objectives of the SAIMC is to encourage good quality human capital to join our profession. One of the most important vehicles to achieve this is a close relationship with the educational institutions that play a facilitating role in the link between industry and education – encouraging collaboration for our mutual benefit.

Tertiary education institutions play an important role in the future of local manufacturing and, for us, it is important that we continue to supply our profession with a constant stream of quality new entrants. To this end, the Durban branch runs an education subcommittee that reports to the full branch committee.

The role of the subcommittee is to identify and run joint initiatives for the benefit of institutions, students and the industry. The idea is that participation in the subcommittee is open to anyone, either in the education institutions or other interested parties, and we encourage participation to be as broad as is possible. The Durban branch committee is represented on the subcommittee by one full time member whose role is the liaison between the subcommittee and SAIMC council. The role of the other subcommittee members is to drive ideas and projects through to implementation.

This subcommittee is already operational and has members drawn from tertiary education institutions in Durban who meet with us periodically. The SAIMC encourages anyone interested in contributing to this initiative to contact Kevin McElroy, [email protected]
