SAIMC: Zambia branch

April 2013 SAIMC

The Midlands sub-branch hosted a successful annual banquet at the Government Complex in Lusaka last December. The event was opened by the Zambia branch chairman, Rodgers Kayombo, who welcomed all present. Richard Musukwa was the master of ceremonies.

Recognition was made for the presence to the guest of honour, deputy minister in the department of labour Honourable Chitotelwa, SAIMC president Johan Maartens and wife Ina, and Zambia branch past chairmen Jones Kalela and Leo Chikasa. Words of appreciation also went to Lafarge Cement Zambia and Zambia Breweries SABmiller for sponsorship of tables for their employees and decoration of the hall. Catering for the Banquet was by Muzala Corporate Lodge, who provided for the evening’s dinner and the beautiful dinner room arrangement.

The guest of honour in his remarks thanked the SAIMC Zambia Branch leadership for organising such a gathering of practicing artisans, technicians, technologist, engineers, users, suppliers and educators in the field of automation, instrumentation, industrial measurement and control. He also thanked the branch for inviting him to officiate at the 2012 Banquet under the theme ‘Enhancing delivery of quality of services in measurement and control’.

He was glad to note that SAIMC membership is determined and has promised to focus on identified goals and work with sincerity and dedication to develop correct attitudes towards plant maintenance and design. In this way SAIMC will be assisting in reducing the negative impact of globalisation effects on the country’s production.

It is well known that in production process one requires process control instrumentation equipment and multi-skilled and experienced personnel. Technology is developing at an ever increasing rate and complexity, therefore, people in this sector can never stop learning and must keep up with technology development.

The organising committee for the 2012 banquet was as follows:

Chairman: Andrew Sikwese

Treasurer: Emmanuel Phiri

Secretary: Rumour Mwelwa Mulimba

Committee: Allan J. Banda, Chitwa Katuta

Supported by the Zambia Branch:

Chairman: Kayombo Rodgers (Kitwe)

Vice chairman: Chimba Widdy (Mopani Mine)

“Never have so many owed so much to so few.” This phrase is a famous quote by Winston Churchill, referring to the efforts of the Royal Air Force pilots who fought in the Battle of Britain during World War II. It highlights the immense gratitude owed to the relatively small number of pilots who played a crucial role in defending the United Kingdom from the German Luftwaffe.
