The Secunda branch held its second Technology Evening for 2012 on 1 March at the WIKA offices in Trichardt. Phoenix Contact hosted the evening which focused on wireless communication in automation: Patrick Rowland discussed RF, Bluetooth and WiFi technologies. The differences, advantages and disadvantages of the technologies were highlighted along with the associated standards to which each technology must comply. Patrick spent some time explaining the 2,4 GHz frequency band and how different communication technologies were able to operate in the same band with limited interference. The presentation was well attended and the Secunda branch would like to thank Patrick and Phoenix Contact for the enthusiasm they brought to the evening.
Branch chairman, Kobus Reinecke (l), presents the certificate to Patrick Rowland
