The Johannesburg SAIMC branch, at its March committee meeting mapped out the calendar for the year as well as assigned the following portfolios to committee members:

* Debbie Scott – chair.

* Paulo de Sousa Gomes – vice chair.

* Johan Maarten – treasurer.

* Eric Carter – secretary.

* Jay King – social functions.

* Andrew Bharath – media liaison and website updates.

* Alvin Seitz – Eeducation (i.c.w. Johan Grobler, Nico Marneweck and Gert Potgieter).

* Syd Thoresson – technology evenings and site visits.

* Steven Meyer – technology evenings and site visits.

The following Technology evenings were planned with dates and speakers as follows:

* 14 April – Intrinsic safety, Gary Friend, Extech.

* 12 May – TBA.

* 9 June – Industrial wireless applications, Phoenix Contact.

* 14 July – Automation in cinemas, Johan van Staden, Ster Kinekor.

* 11 August – TBA.

* 8 September – TBA.

* 13 October – Oktoberfest TBA.

* November – Year-end function.

The much anticipated annual Golf Day will again be organised this year, but we are planning on having it a bit later in the year to accommodate the 2010 Soccer World Cup. Date TBA.

Currently we are planning the following Site Visits:

* SAA technical workshop visit.

* Ster Kinekor.

* Gautrain Control Centre.

If you have any ideas for site visits and technical topics that you would like to know more about please do not hesitate to contact any of the committee members and we will endeavour to organise or get industry experts to present on the topic.
