'Website is under Construction' this is what you have been seeing for the past five months. Well, at last we now have a webpage running at http://www.saimc.net thanks to a lot of work done by Johan Maartens. This is a temporary domain as our official registered domain http://www.saimc.org.za remains unavailable to us. Hopefully in the near future we will regain access and then put an automatic re-route to this url.

The SAIMC is a recognised voluntary organisation affiliated to the Engineering Council of South Africa. Continuing professional development (CPD) is something that both our members and Patron member companies who offer advanced training courses need to understand and consider. This is a way that added value can be realised by those attending the courses, seminars and presentations, thus making them more attractive and of more value to delegates.

CPD is the mechanism through which all registered engineering practitioners are required to accumulate points in order to renew their registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA). In this regard section 22(1) of the Engineering Profession Act, 2000 (Act 46 of 2000) requires that a registered practitioner has to renew their registration and has to 'apply, in the prescribed manner, to the Council for the renewal of his or her registration'.

After a lengthy process of consultation and deliberation with voluntary associations and other stakeholders in the engineering industry, a formal system of recording CPD for engineering practitioners is now a reality. The Society for Automation, Measurement and Control (SAIMC), is recognised by ECSA as a voluntary association; and thus we are accredited to allocate CPD points to training material that is judged appropriate for this purpose.

Being able to provide training that rewards with CPD points is beneficial to the industry, the trainee, the presenter and the training organisation.

At present there are many courses that are available for engineering practitioners. However, not all courses have been registered and accredited for CPD points, therefore the attendees cannot claim for this training. We, the SAIMC, are offering this service at a discounted price to all our members and patrons. Should you wish to have your automation, instrumentation and control material evaluated, please contact [email protected] and we will be pleased to submit a quotation for these services.

“Never have so many owed so much to so few.” This phrase is a famous quote by Winston Churchill, referring to the efforts of the Royal Air Force pilots who fought in the Battle of Britain during World War II. It highlights the immense gratitude owed to the relatively small number of pilots who played a crucial role in defending the United Kingdom from the German Luftwaffe.
