Dramatically reducing greenhouse emissions

Temperature Measurement
There is considerable potential for reducing CO2 emissions in the mill process by optimising the heat source for drying. Hot gas generators (HGGs) are currently used for heating process air, which in turn dries moist feed material. They are used almost exclusively with fossil fuels worldwide. Alternatives such as electric aggregates or process heat exchangers are limited, and in some cases have considerable disadvantages. The most promising approach to achieving a carbon neutral process in a HGG is the combustion of green hydrogen. Although accessing an economical hydrogen supply is a challenge, the technical advantages of using hydrogen in HGGs are substantial. This is regardless of whether the plant is a greenfield, brownfield or retrofit project, with partial or complete substitution with H2. Therefore using hydrogen as a fuel in LOESCHE HGGs is a promising prospect.
LOESCHE is aiming to substitute fossil fuels with hydrogen in its HGGs, and the company has made substantial progress in the development of a hydrogen burner. In the near future, it will be able to offer its customers an innovative hydrogen combustion module as a component of their existing HGGs. The newly developed H2/BURNER systems can be installed in existing HGG plants or as a totally new system.
More than 98% of CO2 emissions from hot gas generators can be allocated to thermal combustion. Electrical energy accounts for the remaining 2%. Using regenerative energy would eliminate CO2 and help realise CO2 neutrality in LOESCHE’s HGG systems.
