Two blast design packages for massive mining are now available from Bryanston-based TLC Software.
The AEL Tunnel 2000 and the AEL Ring 2000 programs were initially written in conjunction with Blast Consult, a division of African Explosives Limited (AEL) to meet AEL's internal needs. They have recently been upgraded to Windows 98/2000/NT for general release.
The Tunnel 2000 enables blasting engineers to design and optimise tunnel blast layouts in mining and civil engineering applications while the Ring 2000 assists engineers with the design and optimisation of ring blast layouts in underground massive mines.
A powerful feature of both packages is the ability to examine what-if situations by easily changing blasting parameters such as hole size, explosive type, initiating system type, etc and see the effect of the total rock breaking costs. The Tunnel 2000 and the Ring 2000 are extremely powerful tools for reducing costs in a critical area of the mining operation.
Tunnel 2000 features:
* Supports five different tunnel shapes: rectangular, top-round, rounded corner, circular tunnels and circular shafts.
* Wizard Design Aid helps define the following parameters: rock properties and drilling details; stand-off parameter definition; smooth blasting parameters; hole type definition; initiator selection.
* Hole layout design.
Ring 2000 features:
* Supports four different ring designs: standard, fan, multiple drill position and interleaved machine design.
* Designs and defines parameters such as client details; ring type and dimensions; rock properties; drilling equipment; hole type definitions, ring spacings and initiators.
* Ring outline input via CAD routines or user defined coordinates.
* Sophisticated ring design mathematical algorithms that space the holes evenly ensuring that toe spacings are equalised.
* Charge optimisation algorithm which automatically calculates the optimum stemming lengths.
Both packages' reporting modules enable the user to create reports on blasting efficiency; hole information; drilling information; explosives consumption and initiation reports. All these reports are available at any time for printing and can be transferred to other users by e-mail.
TLC Software specialises in computer-based engineering solution products for companies for resale and for end-users.
