Elpro Technologies of Australia has developed new radio-based monitoring and control modules that simplify corrosion control supervision on pipelines and other critical installations.
The 105 series of telemetry products, as well as the 405 range of radio data modems from Elpro Technologies, is a welcome solution to monitoring and control applications where critical information needs to be exchange between points along a pipeline or within a control system.
With the recent addition of the self-sufficient 505 RTU, this manufacturer has introduced a full remote monitoring station that can be placed along critical checkpoints without the requirement of external power. The 505 barely measures the size of a handheld radio, inclusive of battery supply for up to three years. It will independently monitor analog, pulse or digital inputs and relay these along a pipeline via digital repeaters. Combined with the more universal 105 RTU type, multiple hops along a transmission path are possible and cost-effective. At these stations, I/O is possible while repeating, lowering the overall investment required to establish an expanded system.
Recently Elpro Technologies added a Modbus master and slave module, these permit seamless integration into conventional scada packages and PLCs. This interface allows very effective exchange of data between PLCs over radio, adding a new dimension of intelligent control into a radio telemetering and control application.
In situations where communications are only required between PLCs, Elpro Technologies offers the 405 radio data modem for serial communications in a transparent format, as well as Profibus on radio solutions where required.
