An infrared thermometer with built-in digital camera is a new innovation in temperature monitoring and analysis. Available from PREI Instrumentation, the Raytek PhotoTemp Model MX6 measures temperature and simultaneously captures a photograph of the area, with the target being highlighted by 16 laser dot circle. Temperature, data and time are automatically captured on the photograph.
The PhotoTemp can store up to 100 photographs in memory and is downloaded to a PC via USB cable. The Windows-based software provided enables photos to be viewed with the temperature data, data and customised location names.
The software also allows graphs of temperature vs time and inspection data in thumbnail photo image view or in tabular format, that display data and thumbnail photographs side-by-side. Easy report creation is possible by importing data and pasting photos from standard file formats.
The PhotoTemp has a temperature range of -30 to 900°C with a sub-zero option unit (down to -50°C). It can be set to take photos whenever the high/low alarm limits are exceeded and has a built-in flash unit that is automatically activated to illuminate the subject in low light.
The MX6 is a powerful tool for electrical and mechanical maintenance because it combines temperature measurement and photography. This enables accurate documentation and visible evidence to be easily produced, and makes maintenance reports for management more meaningful and convincing.
