Chart recorder features range expansion

December 2002 Data Acquisition & Telemetry

Crucial data acquisition can be achieved by using basic chart recorders. It is true that chart recorders have lost market share to PLCs, computers and data loggers.

However, there is still a considerable requirement in industry for the pen recorder. The information on one of these essential instruments is easy to interpret, reliable and normally requires very little skill to operate. The recorder is normally the first line of defence when it comes to quality control and quality assurance.

Now, with a selling price less than conventional non-microprocessor based recorders the new TOHO TRM-10C six-channel dotting recorder has all the features one can expect in a modern recorder. All the inputs are individually programmable for standard RTD, thermocouples, mA, mV and volts.

The TOHO TRM-10C prints the time, date, alarms, comments, scales and chart speed on the chart. Scales can be manipulated so that a particular range of interest to the user can be expanded; in other words the recorder can be made to record 75% of its range over only 50% of the scale leaving the remaining scale clearly visible. The TRM-10C can also provide mathematical calculations such as square root, decade, difference and addition/subtraction.

Fitted with an IP66 sealed door and weighing only 1,5 kg the new TOHO TRM-10C six-point dotting recorder is compact, sealed, robust and lightweight. The large digital display scans through the inputs and displays the current values in engineering units.

The most common use of the TOHO TRM-10C recorder is to record furnace temperatures to ensure that the product reaches the correct temperature and holds there for the ideal time. The TRM-10C is unlike a PC where the (normally) unskilled operator would have to call menus from a PC at a remote site and then try to interpret many irrelevant details. The TRM-10C is normally mounted next to the furnace or product line and almost all information can be gathered at a glance.

The full range of TOHO instrumentation consists of temperature and process controllers incorporating controllers of various sizes and specifications, programmable indicators, temperature profile controllers, etc. All the above are stocked, sold and serviced by Temp-Tek, the exclusive southern African agents.
