New self-powered counters

November 2002 Maintenance, Test & Measurement, Calibration

Kübler of Germany is now producing self-powered LCD counters (Codix 130...136) with new functions at attractive pricing. All products come with 8 digits, each digit 8 mm high. The 42x24 mm DIN housing is far shorter than existing counters and is IP65 protected. In addition to counters, position indicators and hour meters, tachometer versions are also available. A backlit option allows superb readability from longer distances or in dark environments. The ASIC design allows a maximum count speed of 12 kHz, the maximum in today's self-powered LCD counter market. The screw terminals are located in a 5 mm grid (up to 4,2 mm long), making installation simple and safe. The totallisers, position indicators, hour meters and timers operate with contact closure or voltage inputs. Some versions include both. Operating modes for counters are selectable via inputs and include up/down inputs, differential inputs as well as quadrature inputs that allow interface to incremental encoders. The hour meter/timer versions offer time ranges in hours, h+min or h+min+sec. Timing resolution of 1/10 s can be displayed. Start and stop inputs control the operation of the hour meter. All versions offer both positive (pnp) or negative counting edges (npn). Counters feature a filter function to avoid bouncing if triggered with mechanical contacts. Counting inputs work from 3-30 V d.c. A high voltage input version is available accepting pulses between 10-260 V a.c./d.c., making the unit versatile. The frequency meter/tachometer can be applied to flow rate metering, production rate metering, etc. It is pnp triggered for input levels between 4-30 V d.c. The display shows measured frequency in 1/10 per second.
