Siemens Southern Africa acquires Turborep
November 2002
News
Siemens Southern Africa has acquired Turborep, a leading turbine machinery company in South Africa, in a groundbreaking deal that will now enable Siemens to service all of its compressors locally. The acquisition was concluded by Siemens Germany in a bid to strengthen the company's business in the field of industrial turbine and power plant production and service.
Siemens Southern Africa will now be able to service its over 300 compressors with ratings of up to 100 mW through the 24 turbine technicians at the Wadeville-based workshop of Turborep, which this year celebrates its 20th anniversary of operation in South Africa. Siemens will be responsible for any new business in the field of industrial turbines and compressors.
Koos Smit, the alternate director of energy and industry for Siemens Southern Africa, has been appointed to the board of Turborep, thereby enhancing the synergy between the two companies. "This was a logical step for both companies, and we are very excited about the advantage we will gain from having access to local workshop facilities and service. We can now even begin looking at the local manufacture of parts for our large industrial turbines," said Smit.
