Thanks to continuous developments, Linux has become even more mature and reliable. Not least due to its flexibility, Linux is suited for applications in the automation field and allows the design of efficient systems at reduced costs. ADDI-DATA, the manufacturer of plug-in cards suitable for PCs in automation and measurement, supports users choosing this operating system.
Linux drivers are available for almost all PCI cards up to Kernel 2.4. The drivers can be downloaded under www.addi-data.com and are also available on the standard drivers CD-ROM. Two different driver models have been implemented to increase the user flexibility: first, the direct driver allows access to the board functions directly, and second, an interface to the COMEDI module has been developed. This module allows standard accesses on different hardware and in this way simplifies matters when using several cards from the same manufacturer. Customer specific adaptations may be arranged on request, permitting drivers to be used for the realtime extensions of Linux like RTAI and RT-Linux.
The drivers are offered with the GNU Public Licence and are available as source code to permit individual adaptations.
