Industrial PCs equipped with Pentium 4

October 2002 Industrial Computer Hardware

The Simatic 19" industrial PC IL 40 is the first device in the Siemens Automation and Drives (A&D) family of industrial PCs to be equipped with the Intel Pentium 4 processor. Running at 2,0 GHz, this computer performs significantly faster than its predecessor and is suitable for demanding tasks in measurement, inspection and visualisation.

In its new high-end version, the Rack PC has a front-side bus with a speed of 533 MHz, and a processor with 512 KB of second-level cache. The rack PC IL 40 also has a powerful graphics controller on the AGP bus with up to 48 MB of dynamic memory as well as six free PCI slots for PC cards. The new power section automatically adapts to the prevailing supply voltage in the range of 115/230 V and 50/60 Hz, making international use easier. The 40 GB hard drive offers double the memory capacity of the previous version. In industrial applications, the IL 40 is especially impervious to vibration and shock and it can be used over a wide temperature range.
