InterCal will be celebrating 10 years of calibration services to industry later this year. The story began back in late 1992 when Les Wesson, Paul Haarhoff and Guy Snelling pooled their resources and experience to form a company.
InterCal was originally accredited by SANAS (then NCS) for calibrations in the fields of AC/DC electrical, time and frequency, and temperature. These fields were well suited for much of the calibration work in the manufacturing and service industries, with multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, clampmeters, thermometers and industrial calibrators being included in the list of equipment that could be calibrated by the staff at InterCal.
After a number of years, however, it became apparent that more and more work was being performed in the medical and biological sectors of industry, and these sectors also required such instruments as scales and pressure gauges to be calibrated. Staff were suitably trained and capital equipment purchased to enable InterCal to successfully apply for accreditation in the fields of mass and pressure.
Over the years the staff at InterCal have won several awards including the 2001 MIG awards for pressure and mass calibrations and also the 1999 Ray Beaumont trophy for best published article. Recently, more and more clients have been requesting to purchase test and measurement equipment from InterCal and the company is able to supply equipment over a vast range of applications. InterCal recently introduced the CEC webDAQ/100 data acquisition system to South Africa.
