Data Acquisition & Telemetry

Flexible and secure data acquisition unit

August 2002 Data Acquisition & Telemetry

Eurotherm Chessell's latest data acquisition instrument - the 5000B, is designed for maximum security of data and for flexible functionality. Available from Protea Automation Solutions, it has 143 MB of nonvolatile Flash memory for historical data storage with a logging and archiving strategy that protects the data from loss or tampering. Data is stored in a proprietary, binary format and written to the Flash at a configurable recording interval.

The 5000B is a complete management system, driven by Bridge 5000 and Review software packages. These enable the user to review logged and archived process data remotely. Review software is an historical data analysis tool enabling review of recorded data while maintaining its integrity in the proprietary, binary format. The Bridge 5000 package provides complete operation and configuration of the 5000B instrument from the user's desk.

There are six to 12 input channels, one to seven relay outputs, Ethernet access, standard server and client file transfer protocol, screen builder for six screens, auditor feature, maths, totallisers and counters up to 36, 12 available timers, and RS232 or RS485 serial communication.

The system has the ability to group data to best suit the process requirements. Any input channels can be added to any of up to six groups, with no limitation on the number of channels per group. The Batch software enables information to be entered specific to a batch and will record this information with the process data. This option can be configured with up to six operator entry fields. These free format fields may include data such as batch number, job number, customer name, etc. Customer details will be logged with the rest of the batch data on start and/or stop of batch, providing complete traceability of operations.

Pre-defined messages can be added as text to the trend or appear as a pop-up dialogue box on the screen when a certain event occurs, eg. when a channel goes into alarm.
