There has to be a good reason why so many of South Africa's large organisations are careful about which vibration monitoring instruments they adopt. It does not take many false alarms for plant operating staff to disregard a genuine alarm. Metrix units from PREI Instrumentation are considered a bit more expensive than some other makes on the market, but the difference is petty in relation to the value of the equipment they are intended to protect. In 1485, the battle of Bosworth was lost because King Richard could not get to the front line, because his horse could not be shod, because the cheap nails that had been bought were unsuitable for the horseshoes.
For continuous monitoring, a one-piece vibration sensor and transmitter provides a 2-wire loop-powered 4-20 mA signal out. For simpler alarm or trip applications, a robust cast aluminium switch will trip when the vibration exceeds a preset value. Probes for noncontact monitoring of vibration, or of thrust movement, can also be provided from the comprehensive range of Metrix Vibration Instruments. There is a wealth of experience available locally and overseas to handle the proper protection of your rotating machinery.
