Monitoring and controlling dust levels in a plant area is of considerable importance. The health of the worker, the general cleanliness of the plant area, the abrasive affect on the plant machinery and explosion protection are some of the important factors to be considered.
Protea Automation Solutions is offering a centralised monitoring and control system. The SICK/Maihak range provides an easy solution without the need for extensive and expensive cabling. With the FW100 devices, for example, a quick glance at the display PC in central control suffices to immediately inform the plant operator about the current measurement values from all the dust concentration measurement devices installed in the plant.
Instead of longer cables, the use of CAN-bus technology makes it possible to transfer measured values from a maximum of 64 systems up to 1000 m, or display it rapidly and centrally in a control room with drastically reduced wiring. The clearly structured display system, incorporating the usual user interfaces, provides the plant operator with a complete overview of the current residual dust content in every gas channel and the state of the upstream filters.
Use of the FW100 device solves two tasks simultaneously. First, it ensures that the residual dust content in the exhaust channels behind the fabric filters does not exceed set, legally regulated limit values. Simultaneously the measurements and their contemporary central display provide early warning of any looming problems. Experiments show that a split filter does not occur suddenly but develops slowly. The progress of the damage can be monitored by the FW100, and the repair work carried out when it causes least disruption to the process.
Up to now display has only been of assistance in monitoring plants. Now communication between the control room and the monitoring devices operating independently of one another is bi-directional, and the display interface can also be used for setting the parameters or archiving measurement data from the central control site.
