Valve, actuator, sensors and diagnostics module in one package

July 2002 Maintenance, Test & Measurement, Calibration

Integrated sub-systems have enabled Festo to meet the growing need for 'full functionality with minimised costs for purchasing, installation and maintenance' with its DNCV standard cylinder/valve combination.

As per DIN ISO 6431, the drive, valve, sensors and flow-control valve are all integrated, as are the communications interfaces and a diagnostics module. The DNCV standard cylinder/valve combination is equipped to meet the needs of a broad spectrum of users - and can be employed flexibly in distributed applications such as automobile production, special machine construction, conveyor, production and packaging technology, as well as in building and air-conditioning systems.

The DNCV is a complete package, due to the many possible variants and additional functions provided as standard. Among the further technical features of the device are a manual override, ducted exhaust air, internal air supply and a diagnostics module.

The standard multipin connection and PLC, ASI-EVA or CPX interfaces for use with various bus protocols mean that the DNCV is open to all types of controls and systems. Its diagnostics module is equipped with limit-switch monitoring as standard, providing feedback on the operational status. Optionally, the diagnostics module can be used to monitor cylinder speed or the number of operating cycles to facilitate preventive maintenance. Settings are made quickly and simply using DIP switches, which means that no additional PLC programming is required.

The integration of various functions and by positioning the manual override on the drive, electrical and pneumatic connection is greatly simplified. This means that the installation of the cylinder and the release of the valve can now be done by one person. Mounting materials from the modular DNC system make commissioning even simpler.
