Data Acquisition & Telemetry

Audio message repeater

June 2002 Data Acquisition & Telemetry

Alf-Tech is offering an MP3 digital audio programmable player (DAPP) for emergency messaging and other audio-on-demand applications. Application can vary from audio emergency messaging, pre-recorded process alarms and control room alerts including church bell/fire alarm/siren-type playback, in-store promotions, information on-hold, museum exhibits, information kiosks and entertainment systems - wherever pre-recorded audio feedback is required.

Interfacing with online plant information systems allow voice/audio feedback, broadcast or public address system for process or plant status, emergency conditions, batch status, intervention or actions required.

The device can record 32 minutes of near CD quality audio playback, or 70 minutes 'high quality' mono voice playback with the 16 MB memory option installed. It features 16 hardware trigger inputs that can each play a pre-recorded audio file. It also has 60 programmable day timers that can each play a separate audio file with the internal clock accurate to +1 minute/year and battery backed up. Optional RS485 interfacing allows unlimited access to programmable triggers.

The configuration, audio file preparation and trigger assignments are managed by accompanying Microsoft Windows based application software running on standard PCs and using standard sound systems. Each audio file can be given its own compression settings, thus mixed quality audio can be used, with the highest quality setting comparable to CD audio quality. All data is then downloaded to the DAPP via a parallel port cable, whereafter the DAPP can be disconnected from the PC and installed in the application. All DAPP audio data and setup information is stored on flash memory.

Audio output is via balanced line out, and each trigger has various setup options, including; priority level, voltage polarity, single event or looping.
