South African company, Instrotech, is currently processing nine new orders for its locally designed and manufactured tube leak detection systems, the Inspecta FFT, destined for power stations both locally and overseas. The orders total R2,5 million.
The Inspecta is an early warning system to detect leaks on power station boilers before serious damage causes extended repair downtime. The system - based on Fast Fourier Transform sound techniques - continually monitors the progression of detected leaks enabling plant shutdowns to be planned to take place out of peak power usage. Instrotech are the pioneers worldwide of computer-based systems used for this purpose.
All power station boilers over 500 MW in South Africa are fitted with Inspecta. Matla's systems were installed 15 years ago and with recent plant upgrades, Instrotech supplied two Inspectas in 1999 with the latest order in hand for an additional two for 650 MW boilers.
The first two systems for India were installed in 1998 at Jindel power station. The latest order placed by Instrotech's Asian representative, brings the total of Inspecta's in this country to nine. Another six systems are under manufacture, which will be installed on 605 MW boilers at Turkish power stations. The first Inspecta system was installed on Duvha power station in SA in 1985. Today there are over 120 Inspecta systems operational, including Germany, China and Australia.
