PC server for MIS department
March 2002
Industrial Computer Hardware
An overseas telecom company dealing exclusively with mobile phone systems was finding more and more uses for the day-to-day information it accumulated. As the volume of staff and information multiplied, its computer system slowed to sometimes an unacceptable level. The company knew the existing hardware platform had to be replaced with a more reliable, flexible and scalable solution and chose Advantech's IPC-622 and RAID-500 5U SCSI RAID storage subsystem.
The data storage system for the MIS department had to provide premium data safety, accessibility, reliability and scalability. Advantech's dual host system provided RAID redundancy to prevent the risk of loss of data and to minimise system downtime. The ability of the RAID-500 Series ultra wide/ /ultra 2 external SCSI RAID subsystem to add hot-pluggable disk drives online made it easy to expand the system. This provided ample room as the system was upgraded.
Two IPC-622s, 20-slot fault-resilient industrial computers running NT clustering were used as the dual hosts, one active, and one standby, for the company's new system. The RAID-500UW with eight sets of 18 GB ultra wide SCSI HDDs provided a total storage capacity of 108 GB.
Advantech is represented locally by ProMicro.
