To satisfy environmental regulations, industrial wastewater streams need extensive treatment. Thanks to accurate inline analysis, high effluent water cleanliness with minimal chemical consumption and maintenance can easily be achieved.
Inline measurement of pH, conductivity and turbidity is essential in providing assurance that treated waste meets regulatory requirements. In addition, control of these parameters can help process waste more efficiently and cost effectively through preventing over use of reagents and flocculants.
To deal with the conditions in wastewater treatment, Mettler Toledo offers fully automated cleaning and calibration systems for pH, dissolved oxygen and turbidity sensors. These systems relieve the burden on maintenance personnel, reduce operating costs and prolong sensor life.
The EasyClean150 is an efficient unit for the automatic rinsing of sensors with water. It can be operated with any pneumatically retractable housing, controls the insertion and exiting of the housing, and monitors the flushing function of the sensor. EasyClean150 is suitable for applications in which the use of water alone as a cleaning medium is sufficient. The instrument in combination with a multi-parameter transmitter and retractable housing provides a flexible solution which can be implemented into either continuous or batch measurements and is ideal for use in chemical and wastewater treatment.
The InPro 4260i pH probe features the new Xerolyt Extra reference polymer for precise pH measurement and longer lifetime, even under the most difficult industrial environments. The probes come with an open junction, which solves the problem of diaphragm fouling often found in applications where sticky media, solutions with high particle content, or sulphide-bearing solutions are present. These probes are available with intelligent sensor management (ISM) for ‘plug and measure’ and advanced diagnostics.
Analysers for use in high ambient temperature environments
Analytical Instrumentation & Environmental Monitoring
The 993X series of analysers from Ametek Process Industries are now IECEx Zone 2 certified for use in locations with up to 60°C ambient temperature. Built with IP66-rated enclosures and using an integrated cooling system, they can be installed outdoors or in minimally temperature-controlled enclosures, reducing complexity while lowering capital and operating costs.

At its peak in 1994, the energy generation capacity of the UK’s nuclear power stations was 12,7 GW across 16 plants. In 2024, the capacity has fallen to around 5 GW, and the number of stations is down to nine. However, this is far from the end of the story as spent nuclear fuel remains radioactive for centuries, and requires rigorous safety processes to safeguard against leaks.
