Similarities in the South African and Australian economies offer partnership opportunities

March 2017 News

HMPS, an Australian company which specialises in the design, development and manufacturing of high quality machinery for packaging processes, designed and developed its first Bag in Box (BIB) machinery back in the 1980s and has since grown to offer case packers, palletisers, carton erectors and sealers, pick and place applications and specialised robotic solutions.

HMPS currently has an installed base of machinery at various manufacturers around South Africa. “With South Africa and Australia having similar industries, especially the fruit growers, wine and food industries, there are many parallels to draw on as a basis for partnership opportunities,” comments Mark Emmett, the company’s managing director.

Packaging for the food industry

HMPS was recently awarded a contract for the installation of its HMPS1000 RSC BIB case packer and system integration solution at an international food and beverage company.

The company’s engineers had to work to specific customer requirements and the HMPS machine had to be integrated with two other machines from separate suppliers. The system integration had to be seamless in order to avoid downtime, as this would result in spoilt goods for the customer.

The recently completed installation will see the end user company benefiting from an automated, low maintenance and easy to clean solution that meets Australian OH&S standards, which will help to alleviate the company’s end-of-line labour constraints.

“The company’s requirements were readily met by our BIB case packer solution and will undoubtedly provide a return on investment through important productivity gains,” explains Emmett.

Although HMPS is based in Australia, after sales support is always at hand. The company offers a 24/7 service line for customers to log service calls, and using Industry 4.0 technology, support can often be provided remotely. If onsite service is required, HMPS will ensure a qualified service technician is called out.

HMPS machinery is exported to South Africa, New Zealand, Europe, Asia and the USA.
