The SC-301 slimline module from Rhomberg is a control module for Namur sensors (DIN 19234), manufactured in Cape Town. It converts the low current signal of the sensor into a relay switching action. Monitoring the current flow to the sensor, it will detect cable faults and open circuit conditions, making the unit fail safe. The three LEDs on the front of the unit indicate target sensing, cable fault and relay output.
The unit is the only locally manufactured control module to be approved by SABS for use in intrinsically safe applications (EXIB) GR 2C, T6. This makes the unit suitable for use in hazardous areas where proximity switches are required, in particular in petrochemical industries where there are dangerous and flammable gases in the area. They operate with either inductive or capacitive switches. The Namur proximity switch is located in the hazardous area and is connected to SC 301 by two wires which are mounted in a safe area or in a flame-proof enclosure.
Rhomberg also manufactures its own range of Detechtor Namur proximity switches in inductive and capacitive formats and imports the Sick range of Namur proximity switches which also operate with the SC 301.
